Our Story
Something Common is created and brought to life by sisters Sam and Rachel and inspired by our mum.
Our name Something Common is linked to our bond as identical twins. We share more in common than the average person. Our collective passion for sewing was driven from our longing to be unique and different from each other. Sewing our own clothes for special occasions was our way to do just that. None of this would have ever been possible if it wasn’t for our mum who taught us to sew.
Mum patiently taught us how to sew - initially ‘our sewing’ was entirely mum doing her best to guess the design in our minds and conjure up a miracle from a random piece of fabric we’d brought home. With the skills we learnt watching mum we began to create our own pieces.
It is important to us to ensure our impact on the environment is minimal, so our pieces are made using the highest quality natural fabrics. They are designed to be simple yet classic so they can be passed down for generations to come.
We are proud to be designed and made in New Zealand, supporting local businesses throughout the planning, design, and production.
Our limited collections mean you can have something special and unique while sharing Something Common with us.
